How to help

Invest an Acre program
The six Feeding America food banks serving local regions in Minnesota have joined forces to offer farmers simple ways to help fight hunger in your local community. One of the ways is through Feeding America’s Invest an Acre program. Invest an Acre is a way for farmers like you to set aside a portion of the revenue from your 2014 crop. While the program name implies an acre, any donation goes a long way to ending hunger in your community.

Donations to the Invest an Acre program help provide meals to families in need and stay right in your community. And one hundred percent of your donation is tax-deductible.

 Here’s how you can participate:
  1. Before bringing your crop to your local elevator for sale this harvest, fill out the enclosed form or complete the online donation form by visiting HarvestToEndHungerMN.org. You can choose to donate the revenue from a bushel, acre, or any amount from your 2014 crop.
  2. Bring the completed form to your local elevator when you deliver your crops. The elevator will process the donation and Feeding America will send you a receipt for your donation.
  3. Or you can also make a one hundred percent tax-deductible donation online right now by visiting HarvestToEndHungerMN.org.

We appreciate all you do to feed families at home and around the globe. On behalf of the six Feeding America food banks serving Minnesota, we wish you a safe and prosperous harvest and thank you for considering participation in the Invest an Acre program.

Farm to Food Shelf Program
On July 25, 2014 the MN Department of Ag designated $2 million dollars over the next three years for the MN Feeding America food banks to use to reimburse farmers for their surplus produce.  Unlike food manufacturers who get an enhanced tax break; farmers get nothing for any donations they make.  This money will make it possible for food banks & food shelves to capture more produce and a greater variety of it.
